Before Time Began
I want to reflect on the powerful message shared in our recent sermon, which sets the stage for our new series, "Love Pursued Across Eternity." This series is particularly significant as we approach Resurrection Sunday, a time to celebrate the profound love that God has for each of us.
1. Love Existed Before Light in Our World.
Before the world was created, before the stars were set in motion, there was God. And in that stillness of eternity, God had a desire—not just to create, but to love and be loved. Ephesians 1:4 tells us that He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world. This love, known as agape, is not just a feeling; it is a self-giving, sacrificial love that God has for us. It’s a love that existed before anything else, a love that was not based on our performance but rooted in His eternal nature. You were loved long before you were born, and that is a truth we must hold onto as we navigate our lives.
2. The Bride Was in His Heart from the Start
As we delve deeper, we see that the concept of a bride was in God's heart from the very beginning. In John 17:24, Jesus speaks of the love shared between Him and the Father, a love that extends to us. Just as Eve was created from Adam's side, the church, His bride, was formed from Christ. This imagery is powerful; it signifies intimacy and equality. The church is not merely a gathering of believers; it is the beloved bride of Christ, handpicked and prepared for Him. Our existence is not an accident; it is part of a divine plan that God has been orchestrating since before time began.
3. Love is the Meaning of Creation
Finally, we must understand that love is the very meaning of creation. Revelation 13:8 refers to Jesus as the lamb slain from the foundation of the world. This means that God was aware of the cost of love before He even created the world. The cross was not a reaction to sin; it was part of God's eternal plan. Creation was intentional, designed to be intimate, and the cross was the ultimate expression of love. God knew the price He would pay to gain His bride, and He chose to create anyway. This is the depth of His love for us.
As we reflect on these truths, let us remember that we are not just saved; we are desired. We are not merely forgiven; we are pursued. God has made room for us in His heart, and He whispers our names in love. This is our origin story, and it shapes our identity and worth.
In closing, I encourage you to embrace this love that has pursued you across eternity. Live as the beloved bride of Christ, knowing that you are cherished and valued beyond measure. As we continue this series, let us invite others to experience this transformative love, culminating in a powerful celebration on Resurrection Sunday. Together, let’s share the good news of a God who loves us fiercely and unconditionally.
May we all live in the light of this love, allowing it to guide our lives and our relationships. Amen.
